DETERMINing YOUR WEB SITE NEEDS

  1. What do you want your web site’s name (domain name) to be? Try to pick something simple that will be intuitive to your users.

  2. What do you want your web site to do for you? Should it be a static presence on the web, informing people of your organization or business and telling them how to get more information (sort of like a brochure)? Or should it be a dynamic site, providing frequently updated information intended for repeat visitors?

  3. If you have a dynamic site, who should be responsible for making simple updates? Your staff or your web contractor?

  4. Do you already have a logo and/or signature colors to establish your “brand”? These will need to be carried through to your web site. If you don’t already have them, we can have them designed for you.

  5. What are the most important kinds of information you want to make available through your web site? Pick four or five; these will become the main pages on the site.

  6. What are the secondary topics you would like to include somewhere on the site? Make a list.

  7. Does your site need to be interactive? Do people need to be able to contact you or provide information to you through your web site?

  8. Do you need to sell products or services or solicit donations through your site? Do you need to accept credit cards online?

  9. Do you want e-mail addresses for your staff that are tied to your web site?

  10. Do you plan to gather subscribers via your web site and send out an e-newsletter?
